Irminsul (the great pillar) is the pillar that is said to connect heaven and earth, represented by oak or wooden pillars venerated by the Saxons. The Irminsul is the World Tree of the Germanic peoples, especially the Anglo-Saxons. The tree, or pillar of Irmin, points steadfastly toward the North Star.
